#GrouponGroupie 4: Microdermabrasion

Check out my new #GrouponGroupie adventure! This time I’m trying out a popular cosmetic procedure, microdermabrasion!

Deal: 1 Microdermabrasion with Hydration Facial Mask

Price: $30

Money Saved: $85

Rating:  5/5

There’s something about getting closer to 30 that reminds me I need to invest more in skincare. I do a pretty good job as is, but I want to start being proactive with treatments that don’t involve chemicals, needles, or surgery to maintain my face and refresh my skin. Microdermabrasion seemed like the best option.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a superficial cosmetic treatment that uses a minimally abrasive instrument (diamond tip) to gently “sand” the skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer.

What microdermabrasion can do

  • Reduce wrinkles and lighten sun/age spots and black heads
  • Improve hyperpigmentation Treat acne and the scars left by acne
  • Exfoliate skin, thicken collagen, and improve complexion
  • Shrink enlarged pores (I’m still iffy about this one. We’ll see after the next session. I have trouble with pores in my nose.)

The Experience

The technician was very experienced and knowledgeable. She put an aloe mixture on my face and proceeded to scrub my face with the diamond tip. Initially, I was worried removing a layer of skin would be painful, but it was actually nice and relaxing and felt similar to a sugar scrub.

After about 20 minutes of scrubbing, she put a refreshing mint (pretty sure I smelled Eucalyptus as well) hydration facial on my face and let it sit for around 20 minutes. Once time was up. She placed a hot towel on my face to remove it and a light, pleasant smelling moisturizer. She informed me that the layer of removed skin comes back after 15 days so most people do it once a month or every 2 months and the results get better.

Would I do it again?

Absolutely! I thought my skin looked sort of dingy before going in, but after the session, I had a noticeable glow. Aside from the glow it gave me, it got rid of some hyper-pigmented areas on the sides of my face and evened my complexion. If you look at the video closely, you can see a pretty good amount of dead skin peeling once she got to those area. Overall experience was rejuvenating and I saw immediate results. The technician informed me that the results get better the more sessions you have so I’ve already scheduled my next appointment.

Tell me what you think..
